Founded in 1984, the Huntingdon Youth Centre is located in the heart of the Haut-Saint-Laurent MRC, a territory comprised of 13 municipalities where 67% of the population lives in rural areas. The region covers 1,168 km² and is distinguished by its bilingual character.
Our community faces significant socioeconomic challenges: both high schools have a deprivation index of 9, and the material and social deprivation index for the municipalities ranges between 4 and 5. In this context, we are the only youth centre serving the entire territory.
For over 40 years, we have offered teenagers a welcoming, safe, and stimulating environment where they can grow, express themselves, and get involved.
Our approach
The Youth Centre offers a diverse program: workshops, cultural, sports, and social activities, group projects, and civic initiatives.
Each activity is designed with a clear educational purpose:
- Develop personal and social skills
- Build self-esteem
- Encourage critical thinking
- Promote autonomy and civic participation
Our team of qualified youth workers supports young people in their reflections, projects, and daily challenges. Relationships are based on respect, inclusion, and trust.
At the Youth Centre, teens find a place where they can express themselves, fully engage, and thrive in a vibrant, welcoming, and structured environment.
Mission
- To offer young people aged 12 to 17 a sense of belonging that allows them to develop a taste for becoming independent, responsible, and critical adults;
- To help young people carry out projects that foster their self-confidence, creativity, initiative, and social awareness;
- To promote learning about democratic and community life.
